Joseph Smeraldi 

A passionate art educator who inspires joy and wonder about the art world and creative process by sharing his love for art with his students. Joseph has 15 years of experience building positive relationships with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and has taught in public and private institutions across the country.  He is committed to delivering a Visual Arts curriculum with engaging experiences that develop creative thinking, self expression and problem solving skills. Reflection and self-assessment are key aspects of his teaching practice. Ongoing professional development in both teaching and artmaking inspire him to continually revise pedagogy to implement the best and most progressive teaching practices.

Joseph's personal artwork employs a wide range of disciplines and media, exemplifying his inquisitive nature and his commitment to lifelong learning. He most frequently employs drawing, painting, printmaking and photography. A love of handmade images has led him to explore traditional silver and alternative non-silver photographic processes. His most recent works are mixed media and usually incorporate sculptural elements or subtlety play with space in low relief. Joseph has recently discovered a passion for working in clay and teaching ceramics. He hopes to explore ceramics as a primary medium for work in the future.
