Drawing and Painting
Painting isn't a regular part of Joseph's practice, but he loves the process. When he feels compelled to paint, he works mostly in water-soluble media: watercolor, with its layered washes, and gouache, whose opaque, matte color he builds up layer by layer.
His paintings tend toward abstraction. Photography is where Joseph satisfies his interest in realism; painting is where he lets it go, working instead with color, shape and mark.
